Over the years, many South African acts have raised their local and African flags high across the pond at some prestigious events, making all of really proud; Charlize Theron’s Oscar scooping in 2004, the following year ‘Tsotsi’ following suit and the likes of Miriam Makeba, Soweto Gospel Choir and Lady Smith Black Mambazo, all bringing home the Grammy trophy.
This year’s Grammy Awards will be taking place on Tuesday morning and one South African artist will be hoping to walk away with an award after enjoying a successful year. Gospel singer Brenton Brown will be going head to head with some of the biggest artists in his genre from the USA and the 42 year-old is beyond excited for this year’s ceremony. He spoke to the press and revealed:
“After calling my parents, the first person I got in touch with was my high school music teacher, Sandee Grieve. I guess practising really does pay off!”
Brenton Brown is nominated in the ‘Best Contemporary Christian Performance’ category and come Tuesday (16 February) morning he will know whether or not he’ll be adding his name to the winners club. Of course, to us, he’s already won by making us proud and repping the continent on international soil.
